Credit Repair Background:
Michael had 2 accounts with Origin, 1 residential and 1 commercial. He received 2 bills at almost the same time for approximately the same amount. Michael thought that the outstanding amount was already paid knowing he had just paid an Origin bill but was mistaken due to both bills being very similar. Michael was unaware Origin only took part payment due to insufficient funds of around $75. Origin had made contact with Michael at a later date regarding the $75 which he then paid. There was a lot of miscommunication from Origin’s team when he tried to resolve the issue regarding money owing when he had actually paid the full amount. He was asked to pay the outstanding amount again which he did and Michael had then asked for the default to be lifted bill but Origin declined.
What were any challenges with the creditor?
Origin were adamant that the result was valid and they refused to address the points raised in our Law Firm’s complaint therefore we requested the Ombudsman to investigate further.
Why was the listing removed?
The Ombudsman found that when Michael cancelled the account, Michael provided Origin with an updated address. The final bill was sent to this address but all other notices were sent to Michael’s email. Held that notices should have been sent to the postal address not email. Origin agreed to remove default as a result.
