Nadia was holding everything together. A family crisis meant she was the one supporting her partner. Her home had a big mortgage and she couldn’t keep up, so she rented it out and moved in with a friend.

Something had to give. It was a personal loan with a big bank, which ended up as a default of around $36,000, later held by a debt collector.

What it was doing

Nadia only found out about the default when she applied for finance and was declined. A default that size makes most lenders stop reading.

What we did

Nadia’s mortgage broker referred her to us. We sent an initial request letter to the collector asking it to review how the default came to be listed.

Why it came off

On review, the collector found the default had been listed in error and agreed to remove it.

The result

We started on 16 May. The default came off on 23 May, 7 days later. Nadia could go ahead with her finance application.

What this means for you

Big defaults feel permanent. They aren’t always correct, though. Asking the right questions in writing can be enough to get a creditor to check its own work. Our credit repair lawyers do this every day, and we’ll tell you straight if we think your chances are low.

This is a past matter. Names and identifying details have been changed to protect our client’s privacy.

Results depend on individual circumstances. Every credit file is different, and a past result doesn’t guarantee the outcome of your matter. This case study is general information, not legal advice.
